Fenrir, the giant wolf, is one of the most formidable creatures in Earth's Norse mythology. It's strength and power was feared by the Gods themselves.

Composed of 6 Gryphon class fighters, with its powerful and variable weapons load capabilities, make it a formidable addition to the USS Valkyrie.

The Gryphon-class fighter/bomber was developed as part of Starfleet's efforts to modernize the ageing starfighter inventory of the Aerospace Corps.

Development began following the success of the Valkyrie class fighter, including both the Mark I and Mark II variants. Following the introduction of the Valkyrie Mark II, Starfleet Research and Development identified an opportunity to apply the successful design principles of the Valkyrie program witho newly emerging technologies to create a new more versatile craft. The resulting craft became the Gryphon class fighter/bomber: a heavily armed, multi-role tactical craft capable of fighter interception, strike operations, reconnaissance and ground assault.

Technical Specifications for Gryphon class fighters:
Classification: Fighter
Crew: 2

Propulsion:
Impulse engines: 1
Warp nacelles: 2
Cruising speed: Warp 3
Maximum speed: Warp 5.2
Emergency speed: Warp 5.5 (30 minutes)
Normally, these fighter operate at impulse speeds and are delivered by a carrier or operate out of a Starbase.

Basic Weapons:
Phasers:
2 Type U+ Pulse Phaser Emitters
2 Type VI Phaser Array

Two Type U+ pulse phaser arrays are mounted in the forward sections of the wings, one on either side of the fuselage. Two additional Type VI phaser arrays are mounted along the fuselage on either side of the centreline hardpoint. These arrays are primarily forward-facing and provide the Gryphon with considerable concentrated firepower during attack runs.

Micro Torpedoes (MT):
launchers: 2, forward
MTs: 36

One of the defining features of the Gryphon is its substantial torpedo capability. Two micro-torpedo launchers are positioned behind and to either side of the cockpit. Each launcher carries eighteen micro-quantum torpedoes, providing a standard complement of thirty-six micro-quantums.

For heavier strike missions, the Gryphon can carry up to three full-sized quantum torpedoes on external hardpoints. This configuration allows the fighter to undertake bombing runs, attacks against hardened targets and ground assault operations.

Countermeasures:
ECM/ECCM pods: 36

External Underwing Loadout Options:
Micro Torpedo Launcher, 36 MTs, max of 1 launcher/wing
Mk 1 Hellhound cluster bombs, 24/mount, max of 2 mounts/wing
Photon/Quantum Torpedo Launcher, 3 torpedoes/mount, max of 1 launcher/wing

Shields and armor:
Auto-Modulating, Regenerative Shielding System
Regenerative duranium with added ablative armor matrix

The Gryphon incorporates an upgraded shielding package designed to allow the craft to survive sustained tactical operations than earlier fighter designs. Defensive protection is provided by an advanced fighter shielding system designed for the high acceleration, rapid maneuvering and repeated weapons impacts associated with tactical aerospace operations.

Dimensions:
length: 20.5 meters
width: 13.9 meters
height: 3.5 meters

Other Equipment:
Emergency transporters: 1, 2 person
